Books on Wheels will be holding an event at St. Joseph’s Villa on Saturday April 25th.

Books on Wheels is holding a volunteer book organizing event on Wednesday May 6th in order to fullfill request from local organizations for books for their spring and summer programs. Here are the event details:

Books on Wheels Volunteer Day
Wednesday May 6th
12-4 pm
2913 W. Cary St.
Richmond, Virginia
(outside of Chop Suey Books in Carytown)

The bus will be there and we will be working outside of it on the sidewalk. Also, we will be accepting book/bike donations on this day at anytime!

We are so excited to have recieved 14 requests already for free books for this Spring and Summer from Richmond and surrounding areas non-profit organizations to help their clients. Here was the email sent out earlier this week:

“Books on Wheels has been very fortunate in how generous people have been with donating books, and now we would like to work on the getting these book back into the community!
 
We are asking local non-profits and organizations with clients in need to email us a wish list of books that we will fullfill to our best capability and drop them off with your organization. If you have a donation requestion please send us:
 
Organization name
Address
Number of books requested
Ages/reading levels needed
Contact information (email/phone)”

We will be working hard to fill these requests by June 1st. Thanks to all that contacting us!

Books on Wheels will be in Baltimore on June 20th, 2009. More info TBA.

Please take the time to watch this awesome documentary available in parts on You Tube made by a group of people through The New Orleans VideoVoices Project. The project gives people the oppurtunity to learn the use of video equipment and then tell the story of their neighborhood in Central City who felt that “despite the swarming of the mass media after Katrina and the efforts by filmmakers from around the world, the real story of their neighborhood has never been told”.
We were told about the project last year by our dear friend Rev. Larry Campbell, minster at the Israelite Baptist Church in Center City, and this year he gaves us copies of the completed documentary.

Books on Wheels will be visiting Oak Grove Bellmeade School on April 24th.

The VCU Great Bike Round-Up is here again. Bring your bike to get registered with the VCU Police and get complementary tune-up and advice from two great local bicycle shops, Richmond Re-Cycles and Pibby’s. There is always a great deal of information available at these events about bicylce safety as well.
